Mzansi’s favourite reality adventure is heading to Réunion Island with celebrities, everyday South Africans and plenty of drama
Mzansi, pack your imaginary suitcase because Tropika Island of Treasure is back!
The reality competition returns for its 12th season on Wednesday, 23 September at 21:00 on SABC1, and this time contestants are swapping the usual scenery for the breathtaking Réunion Island.
But make no mistake — this is not a holiday. There’s R1 million up for grabs, so expect friendships, strategy and probably a few “Hayi, kodwa why?” moments along the way.
Meet the celebrity teams
This season's celebrity contestants include Nadia Nakai, Caster Semenya, Francois Hougaard, Leandie du Randt, Sandile Mahlangu, Amanda du-Pont, Lalela Mswane and Wiseman Mncube.
They'll be paired with everyday South Africans who earned their spots through a competitive audition process.
The contestants include Ashay Sewlall, Jodell Tantij, Shaun Farrell, Thando Zwane, Anke Coetzer, Iana Strydom and Andile Khuluse.
Award-winning presenter Zanele Potelwa is also returning to lead viewers through the adventure.
Réunion Island is the new playground
This season introduces Réunion Island as the show's latest destination, bringing dramatic volcanic landscapes, lush mountains and turquoise waters to the screen.
It may look like paradise, but contestants won't have much time to admire the scenery.
They'll face physical challenges testing their strength, speed, stamina and endurance, alongside puzzles and mental challenges designed to test memory, strategy and problem-solving.
Basically, “I'm tired” won't be an acceptable excuse.
Brains, brawn and teamwork
Being the strongest team won't guarantee victory either.
Contestants will need to communicate, work together and stay sharp as unexpected twists threaten to shake things up.
With R1 million waiting at the finish line, expect alliances to form, strategies to change and contestants to discover exactly how competitive they really are.
And knowing reality TV, someone is bound to say, “I came here to make friends,” before immediately plotting their downfall.
Tropika Island of Treasure Season 12 premieres Wednesday, 23 September at 21:00 on SABC1, with a repeat on Thursday, 24 September at 18:00 on S3.
