Drama, reality, nostalgia and plenty of chaos
If your October plans were looking a little too peaceful, M-Net, Mzansi Magic and kykNET have entered the chat.
The channels are bringing a packed line-up of new shows and returning favourites, with everything from high-stakes crime dramas and reality dating to celebrity gossip, documentaries and good old-fashioned nostalgia.
Basically, cancelling that “I’m going to bed early” plan might be necessary.
Invisible brings crime and secrets to M-Net
Starting 14 October at 20:00, Invisible follows Emma Le Roux as she returns home after hearing from her long-lost brother.
Together with bodyguard Martin Dekker, she is pulled into a dangerous world of poaching, corruption and family secrets in the Lowveld.
Starring Kim Engelbrecht, Tumisho Masha, Frank Rautenbach, Abbie Cornish and Dougray Scott, the M-Net Original is based on Deon Meyer’s bestselling Blood Safari.
If you enjoy crime, suspense and stories where nobody seems to be telling the whole truth, this one is calling your name.
Spinners Season 2 is back with more tyre smoke
The spinning crew returns to Mzansi Magic on 25 October at 20:00.
Ethan and the Underdogs are chasing their dreams in Joburg, but his past refuses to stay in the rear-view mirror.
A street race involving rising driver Sayi lands the crew in jail, while Hercules starts plotting his revenge.
Expect bigger rivalries, faster cars and enough drama to make you say, “Hayi, these guys never learn!”
VIP Lounge brings the celebrity tea
Starting 2 October at 21:00, VIP Lounge gives viewers an inside look at Mzansi’s entertainment world.
Hosted by Zulu Mkhathini and Pamela Mtanga, the show goes behind the scenes of popular telenovelas, celebrity events and the lives of some of the country’s biggest stars.
Think of it as getting VIP access without having to know the bouncer.
Dating gets awkward in Elevator Love
What if you had just one elevator ride to impress someone enough to secure a date?
That’s the premise of Elevator Love, premiering on 18 October at 18:00 on Mzansi Magic, with Pamela Mtanga as host.
The dating experiment gives hopeful singles one short trip to the top floor to make a lasting first impression.
No pressure. Just your entire romantic future and an elevator bell.
Married at First Sight Uncut spills more tea
Starting 30 October at 20:00, Married at First Sight Uncut takes viewers behind the scenes of the popular reality experiment.
Expect unseen footage, conversations and moments involving the couples that could give viewers a completely different perspective on their journeys.
Because apparently, we were not getting enough drama the first time.
KykNET brings nostalgia with Daar was ’n Tyd
Premiering 14 October at 20:00, Daar was ’n Tyd takes viewers on a nostalgic journey through memories, people, places and experiences that shaped Afrikaans communities.
The eight-part documentary explores everything from radio and television to concerts, censorship, military conscription, circus memories and the food generations grew up eating.
In other words: expect plenty of “Back in my day…” moments from parents and grandparents.
More shows to add to the watchlist
There’s plenty more arriving in October, including:
- S.W.A.T. Exiles – Premieres 7 October at 20:00 on M-Net.
- Boekmerk – Premieres 14 October at 21:00 on kykNET, celebrating Afrikaans books and writers.
- Cupertino – Premieres 20 October at 19:00 on M-Net, bringing Big Tech and courtroom drama together.
- 10 Over 10 Season 5 – Returns 23 October at 19:00 on Mzansi Magic with viral stories, celebrity headlines and trending topics.
- The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist – Premieres 24 October at 21:00 on M-Net, exploring the possibilities and risks of artificial intelligence.
With crime, romance, celebrity tea, reality chaos, nostalgia and AI all fighting for screen time, October's TV schedule is looking seriously busy.
So, Mzansi, charge those remotes and prepare the snacks. Your watchlist is about to become a full-time job.
