TOPS at SPAR’s Win a Car Campaign Just Turned Grocery Shopping Into a Full-On Art Exhibition on Wheels

Imagine going to buy your favourite drinks at TOPS at SPAR and leaving with a custom-designed car that looks like it belongs in a music video. Yoh. That’s exactly the kind of soft life energy the TOPS at SPAR Win a Car 2026 campaign delivered this year.

And no, these weren’t just normal cars with a bow on top. Nah, my friend — these were proper moving masterpieces inspired by beer, whiskey, cocktails, wine, gin and tequila kulcha. Basically, Mzansi creativity said: “Why drive boring when you can drive art?”

Six Cars. Six Winners. Unlimited Bragging Rights.

The campaign officially crowned six lucky winners, each driving away in a uniquely customised vehicle inspired by a different lifestyle and drink category.

Honestly, imagine pulling up at the groove in a one-of-a-kind “Whiskey Kulcha” car. Even the neighbours would come outside pretending to take out the rubbish just to stare.

The lucky winners include:

  • Ruan Smal – Winner of the Whiskey Kulcha Car from Rynfield TOPS at SPAR, East Rand
  • Sabinah Matsane – Winner of the Wine Kulcha Car from Soshanguve Crossing TOPS at SPAR
  • Yolande Janse Van Vuuren – Winner of the Cocktail Kulcha Car from Elisenheim TOPS at SPAR, Namibia
  • Xolisani Dlamini – Winner of the Beer Kulcha Car from Power TOPS at SPAR, KwaMashu
  • Sam Noseko – Winner of the Tequila Kulcha Car from Lighthouse 1 TOPS at SPAR, Eastern Cape
  • John Machavana – Winner of the Gin Kulcha Car from Acornhoek TOPS at SPAR, Lowveld

At this point, their WhatsApp profile pictures are probably just them standing next to the cars with captions like: “God did.” 😭

When Street Art Meets South African Kulcha

What made this campaign stand out wasn’t just the prizes — it was the incredible artists behind the designs.

TOPS at SPAR teamed up with some of South Africa’s dopest visual artists, graffiti legends and illustrators to transform ordinary vehicles into rolling pieces of culture and creativity.

One of the standout creatives was Mduduzi “Psalm1” Tshabalala, who designed the Whiskey Kulcha vehicle. Known for his authentic graffiti style and years in the game since 1997, Psalm1 brought timeless urban flavour to the project.

And let’s be honest — whiskey and graffiti culture together? That combo already sounds cooler than someone arriving late to a braai wearing sunglasses at night.

Beer and Tequila? Damn Vandal Said “Say Less”

Artist and illustrator Shaun “Damn Vandal” Oakley handled both the Beer and Tequila Kulcha cars, bringing bold street-art vibes and fearless self-expression to the campaign.

The designs scream celebration, personality and “main character energy.”

Basically, if these cars could talk, they’d probably say:
“Aweh, let’s go groove.”

The Wine Kulcha Car Came With Elegance and Sauce

Artist KevSeven designed the Wine Kulcha car, blending sophistication, storytelling and Black excellence into one striking visual creation.

Known for celebrating Black beauty, resilience and heritage through his work, KevSeven’s design brought depth and meaning to the campaign.

As the artist explained, art is about connection, identity and representation — and seeing people connect with the work in such a celebratory way made the experience rewarding.

Translation: the streets were impressed, my bru.

Gin and Cocktails Got Their Shine Too

Illustrator and graphic designer Mncedisi “Agrippa” Hlophe designed both the Cocktail and Gin Kulcha cars, serving vibrant visuals inspired by modern lifestyle culture and fresh design aesthetics.

These rides basically look like they belong parked outside a rooftop party where everyone suddenly starts speaking with fake British accents after two cocktails.

More Than Just a Competition

According to Anna-Marie Marks, National Marketing Manager for Liquor at TOPS at SPAR, the campaign aimed to create more than just excitement around prizes.

It was also about celebrating individuality, showcasing local artistic talent and giving consumers a unique cultural experience.

And honestly? Mission accomplished.

Because somehow, TOPS at SPAR managed to combine:

  • Cars
  • Art
  • South African culture
  • Shopping
  • And good vibes

…into one campaign that had people talking nationwide.

Catch the Artists on TV

For those wanting a closer look at the creatives behind these incredible designs, the rebroadcast of Top Billing featuring the artists aired on 18 June at 21:30 on SABC 1.

Because if there’s one thing South Africans love almost as much as winning things, it’s seeing local talent shine on a national stage.
