If your TV schedule has been craving a heavy dose of generational secrets, powerful women running empires, and supernatural twists, eish, you are in luck. Mzansi Magic has just announced a brand-new 13-part family drama titled Inyosi, premiering on DStv Channel 161 on Monday, 2 November at 8 PM.
Rooted in emotional truth and cultural specificity, this upcoming show promises a deeply layered look at power, family dynamics, and the haunting cost of choices made decades ago.
Meet the Heavyweight Cast
Leading this powerhouse ensemble is the phenomenal Dawn Thandeka King (Shaka iLembe), starring alongside television newcomer Kethukuthula Jele, veteran favorite Thembsie Matu, and heart-throb Kwenzo Ngcobo.
Dawn plays Mabongi Mageza-Ngcobo, a fierce widow and successful CEO of Ekhaya Events and Catering.
She’s a dedicated mother to her three children—Nsika (Kwanele Mkhize), Kwanele (Toka Mtabane), and Samukelo (Nandipa Khubone). Naturally, as conversations around the future leadership of the family business heat up, the kids waste no time competing to prove who deserves the top seat.
A 30-Year-Old Secret and a Desperate Choice
The core of the drama takes us back three decades, when a young, pregnant Mabongi went to tell her lover, Bheki, about the child. Instead of stepping up, Bheki rejected her to marry someone he deemed "pure," leaving Mabongi devastated after she had actively participated in Umhlanga (the reed dance rite of passage). To add salt to the wound, her fellow maidens turned their backs on her.
Humiliated and desperate to escape poverty and insignificance, Mabongi turns to a powerful spiritual healer, Sunday Nkabinde (played by Zakhele Msibi). Instead of simple luck-bringing umuthi, he offers her an isthwalo agreement—unaware that her choice will echo across generations.
Fast forward to the present, and newcomer Kethukuthula Jele plays Buhle, a young woman who starts uncovering a mystery tied to a distinctive honeycomb-shaped mark on her back.
What are the terrifying terms of Mabongi’s ancient agreement, and what sacrifices are coming back to haunt the family? Tune in to Mzansi Magic (Channel 161) on Monday, 2 November at 8 PM to find out!
