Thando Zide turns album launch into a whole Mzansi experience
The singer-songwriter swapped the usual album launch for an immersive celebration of music, fashion, design and connection

Thando Zide clearly said, “Why just launch an album when we can make it an experience?” — and Mzansi was here for it!

The acclaimed singer-songwriter joined forces with Stella Artois to transform the launch of her album Ku Ngawe into the sold-out KuNgawe Experience, bringing more than 500 guests together in Muldersdrift.

And this was no ordinary album launch. Guests were invited into Thando’s world through live music, fashion, design, food and good old-fashioned human connection — because sometimes we need to put the phone down and actually talk to people. Imagine that!

The album was lived, not just launched

Thando performed Ku Ngawe in full, with celebrated artist Manana joining her on stage as the pair brought the album’s themes of vulnerability, presence and connection to life.

The experience went beyond the music, with the venue itself becoming part of the storytelling.

Inspired by an Afro Riviera aesthetic, the Muldersdrift location was transformed through a creative collaboration with South African artist and designer Keneilwe Mothoa, co-founder of Neimil.

Design meets music

Keneilwe and the Neimil team created an immersive environment using architecture, lighting and natural textures to complement the emotional world of Ku Ngawe.

The idea was simple: slow down, disconnect from the digital noise and reconnect with the music — and each other.

With Stella Artois supporting the experience, the sold-out event showed how South African artists are moving beyond traditional album launches and creating cultural moments that audiences can see, feel and experience.

Because, as the team behind KuNgawe put it: albums have been released for decades. KuNgawe was lived.
