If there was one place to be this past weekend, it was Durban! 😭🔥
More than 4,000 music lovers, culture enthusiasts, and Smirnoff 1818 fans pulled up to Berea Rovers for the first-ever Smirnoff Real Makoya Imbizo, and bathong, what a vibe it was!
Far from being just another music festival, the event celebrated everything that makes South African culture special — from heritage and identity to music that gets your feet moving before your brain can even process what's happening. 😅💃🏽
The day delivered a proper soundtrack of Mzansi, blending the rich sounds of Maskandi with Gqom, Amapiano, House, and AfroSoul. One of the biggest highlights saw Maskandi heavyweights Khuzani Mpungose and Mthandeni Manqele sharing the stage, sending fans into a frenzy and proving once again that Maskandi is having a serious main-character moment.
The star-studded line-up also featured crowd favourites including Big Zulu, Ntencane, Lwah Ndlunkulu, Goldmax, Benny Maverick, DJ Cndo, and DJ Wobbly, keeping the energy levels on full blast from afternoon until midnight.
And because South Africans don't survive on music alone, festival-goers also enjoyed food stalls, exclusive merchandise, interactive brand experiences, and plenty of spaces to chill, connect, and create content for Instagram before their phones died. 😭📸
With thousands of attendees leaving with sore feet and happy hearts, one thing became crystal clear: the Real Makoya Imbizo is not just an event — it's the beginning of what could become one of South Africa's biggest cultural celebrations.
Durban showed up. The artists delivered. The people danced.
Now the only question is: when's the next one? 🔥🇿🇦
