METRO FM Turns 40 and Says “New Voices, Same Fire”

Yoh, 40 years?! 😭 That’s not just a milestone, that’s legend status. METRO FM is hitting the big 4-0 this year, and instead of slowing down, they said, “let’s upgrade the vibes.”

Same Station, But With a Fresh Drip

As the station gears up for its anniversary in September, they’ve decided to shake things up just enough — not too much, ngoba we don’t fix what isn’t broken.

Translation? Your faves are still there… but now they’ve added some spice.

New Kids on the Block? Sharp Sharp

Joining the family are:

  • Siyabonga Ngwekazi (aka Scoop — you already know the vibes)
  • Nomuzi Mabena bringing that cool, youth energy

These two are teaming up for a weekend lifestyle show that’s giving “radio meets culture meets social media.” Basically, content and vibes. 🔥

And it doesn’t stop there…

  • Ricardo Genesis is stepping in as part of the new generation (we love to see it 👏🏾)
  • Mvangeli Nzuza is making sure your traffic updates don’t catch you off guard — ngoba Joburg traffic? A whole personality 😭

The Line-Up? Yoh, It’s Giving Premium Content

From early morning hustle to late-night soul sessions, the lineup is stacked:

  • Best Mornings with Sabby & Candice — ngoba we all need help waking up 😅
  • The Midday Linkup with LKG & ProVerb — lunch break, but make it entertaining
  • The Touchdown with Tbo Touch & Loot Love — drive time sorted 🔥
  • Weekend shows bringing pure vibes, from Audiogasm to Sunday Soul Therapy

Basically, no matter what time you tune in — something is happening. No dry slots here.

Not a Rebrand, Just a Glow-Up

According to management, this isn’t about changing the station — it’s about building on what already works. And honestly? That’s the sweet spot.

Because METRO FM isn’t just a radio station — it’s part of the culture. It’s where music, conversations, and vibes meet.

40 years later and METRO FM is still that girl. Still relevant. Still leading. Still giving us reasons to stay glued to the radio like it’s 2010. 😭

Whether you’re an early bird or a late-night cruiser, one thing is clear — the airwaves are about to be BUSY.
