Mzansi Picked the Real Ones: SA’s Top 5 One-Handed Food Legends Are Here

South Africans have spoken — and when it comes to food, we speak loud. After more than 25,000 votes from hungry Mzansi foodies, Windhoek Beer has revealed the Top 5 Realest One-Handed Food Legends in the country.

And yes, this is exactly what it sounds like.

We’re talking about the real MVP meals — the kind you demolish with one hand, because the other one is busy holding an ice-cold Windhoek. Balance, my friend. Pure balance.

This whole delicious movement comes from the #RealBeerRealFood campaign, a nationwide search for the food spots that truly run the streets — the places serving legendary plates through a hatch, from a food truck, or from that corner spot your friend swears is “the best in the country.”

You know the type. The food that makes you say: “Yoh… why have you been gatekeeping this place?”

The Streets Have Chosen 🍔

After a mix of public votes and judging by a panel that included J Something, chef Benny Masekwameng, Dali Danger and media personality Coco, five food heroes have made it to the finals.

Mzansi’s Top 5 Realest One-Handed Food Legends are:

Disoufeng

Chaf Pozi

Marks Pub & Shisanyama

Boipelo’s Kitchen

Sasko’s Kitchen

From kasi favourites to a mobile kitchen on the move, these spots have had the timelines buzzing and stomachs rumbling.

R200K and Serious Bragging Rights

Now here’s where things get spicy.

One of these finalists walked away with R200,000 and the official title of South Africa’s Realest One-Handed Food Legend.

But first, they battled it out one last time at the Windhoek Real Food Market, which took place at the Kromdraai Creativity & Impact Hub.

And guess what? The people attending the event got the final vote. So yes — your appetite  literally decided the winner.

Food, Music and Proper Vibes

Because no South African event is complete without music and good vibes, the Real Food Market also brought through a proper lineup, including:

Elaine

Shekhinah

Jeremy Loops

Mi Casa

Zoe Modiga

DJ Kent

Basically the kind of event where someone says, “Let’s just stop by quickly” — and the next thing you know, you’re still there at sunset holding a plate and dancing slightly off-beat.

Real Food Hits Different

At the end of the day, this whole campaign was about celebrating the food that brings people together — the meals that start conversations, fix bad days, and somehow taste even better when eaten on a stoep with friends.

Because in South Africa, food isn’t just food.

It’s community, nostalgia and a full personality.

And if you can eat it with one hand while holding a cold one with the other?

Sharp. That’s elite cuisine right there
